ReviewsAquarium or
Zoo?

Although
MUCH better than the Aquarium in Fair Park, it still cost
wayyyy too much for what it had to offer. Not only fish, but
you also got to see birds of all kinds and wild cats, bugs,
spiders, etc. An adult ticket is $18. Too much for what they
provided. The snacks are also extremely expensive and the
booklets offer very little direction and to where to go and
what to see. The parking was horrible and there was very
little explanation on how to pay the parking toll. If you're
not from a big city where you have parking tolls, you don't
understand that stuff!! Seems like they tried to squeeze too
much together in the building and in the parking area. Not
worth us going again!! Wonder what the aquarium in Houston
looks like? Ft. Worth used to have one too!! The designers of
this zoo need to visit the aquarium in Atlanta, Georgia!! Now
THAT was an aquarium!! Good Try Dallas...

When
ever we are in Dallas, we always visit the Dallas World
Aquarium. It's funny, I have never really thought about the
fact that it is not an aquarium in the strict sense of the
word. We just love the whole experience. When you first enter,
you are at the top of a three story plus atrium. You can look
down over the balcony and see giant fish, turtles, and
manatees swimming below. As you continue to walk, you
gradually go lower and lower until you are at the bottom.
Along the way, you might see a friendly bird on the railing,
or monkeys scaling trees out in the open. When you get to the
bottom, there are more exhibits, and then finally, the actual
"aquariums," which are actually small, but quite beautiful.
One of the restaurants is a pretty good Mexican restaurant
that overlooks another atrium that has flamingos and sharks
below. You might even see an exotic hummingbird through the
window while you are eating lunch. Yes, the aquarium is
expensive, but beautiful and very interesting, especially if
you enjoy scenery and animals of all kinds.
Overpriced, but has some 3-4 great
exhibits

Aquarium
is in the middle of Downtown Dallas, easy to find. half Zoo
half Aquarium. Has 3-4 great exhibits We spent about 1 hour
there and went slow through the 4 floors. Plan 40-70 minutes,
maybe a little more if you really want to linger or eat
inside. Parking was something like $3 for an hour or $5 for
"all day" Thinking we would be there more than an hour we
overpaid. While nice, I agree with other reviewers, it is
overpriced for the time spent inside.

So,
I read the reviews before I went, Yes it is PRICEE $19.00
dollars for adults with no discounts around. My family and I
are from Los Angeles, we moved to Dallas a few months back. We
were members at the Auarium of the Pacific in Long beach, as
with the Dallas Aquarium you really can go through both in 45
minutes. What we liked about the Dallas Aquarium, is that its
3 1/2 stories with the top half being part zoo, and the bottom
two floor all aquarium. Lots to see, and if you take your time
you might catch 90% of it. From the birds, the monkeys, sloth,
otter, jaguar, crocs, giant carp, penguins and sharks that you
can see through a glass tunnel. I even had a bird climb on my
forarm and hang out for a few seconds. Since we only live 20
minutes north of downtown Dallas we decided to buy a
membership only because with the high one time admission price
my family could make up the cost of the mebership by visting
less then 3 times in the next year. and since there are things
you could miss on your first visit the next visit you might
catch more. We didnt buy any food there but with the maze they
bring you through to view things there are small cafes almost
on every floor. Parking is all over, $2 an hour to $5 all day.
If you took your time walking through the aquarium I dont
think you would be there more then 2 hours unless you had a
sit down meal. All in all it was pretty cool, I would
recommend it highly if you don't mind the entrance
fee.
Bad
value

I
thought the admission price was way too high for this
facility. It was interesting as more of a habitat than an
aquarium. For example, there is a large leopard in a tiny
glass enclosure in the middle - I am not sure how that fits
in. It costs $20/person, no discounts. I would steer
clear.
